I am working tonight. I haven't been in for over a week but I have to put in at least two hours starting at 8 pm. We have our Road Warrior clinic tonight which usually goes from ten to midnight. Some kind soul realized this was unacceptable for New Year's Eve.
This will probably involve donning some purple latex free gloves and serving up some salad and a mushy casserole. I will then do my best to talk the kids into being seen by the doctor. It is highly likely I will have at least one conversation about someone's pissed off partner or how someone got their squat raided and they need a new blanket. Someone will probably yell at me for not allowing them more than one or two pair of socks. Thing is, if the rest of the staff weren't looking, I'd give them the whole damn drawer full.
I will hand out hygiene items and try to "engage" with the peeps identified as needing mental health services even though I won't be able to get them in with the psychiatrist for at least a month if they actually want meds. Some of them deny any need for services, most do actually. At least at first. Even if they have oozing wounds that anyone can see are beyond nasty and painful. The ones who probably need it the worst think they don't. This is what makes the job exciting and rewarding I suppose. And really overwhelmingly depressing at times.
For some reason I don't feel like partying it up this '08 eve. I think I will go have a beer with a few of my co-workers after we get out. We can recap the evening. If I am feeling super sassy, I may send out a text or two inviting a special crush-worthy boy or two to the bar. Except I am feeling kind of fat and dull. Dullard. Way too much sleep the past few days.
Happy New Year! Tonight I am going to wear my new favorite t-shirt which reads: Gimme that County Western Music. Hot, right?

My new obsession
I have begun collecting westerns from the 40's-60's. These mostly include books for children or adolescents. However, today I found two novels: Arizona Guns and Rebel's Roundup. These were first sold for 25 cents apiece. Arizona Guns was first published in 1918. My paperback copy came out in 1957. The cover reads: "He Was a Hard Man-With Colt or Fist." The 1952 Rebel's Roundup states "Range-dry saddle bums gun through Texas".
It takes some time and dedication to build my library since I refuse to pay more than 3 bucks a book. This means I spend an embarrassing amount of time cruising the thrift stores. It is sooo worth it when I can read lines like: "They were dirty, unshaven, hungry-desperate men whose six-guns slapped against their gray pants." *sigh*

Where do I begin?
The holidays.
Well, true to my nature, I spent a late night out prior to my 7:30 a.m. flight home to Little Rock. I actually got into bed around 12:30 or one a.m. but promptly sat up, ran to the bathroom and puked my guts out at approx. 2:45. Luckily, I woke up with the alarm. I then fell back to "sleep". I woke with 45 minutes to spare. Sadly, I hadn't packed for the trip yet. Also, I had puke in my hair.
I made it to the airport on time... with all the things I needed except for one gift which I wasn't that sold on anyway. Whew. I took a pill and slept like a dream the whole way. 2222222222222222222222213 Oops. Dropped some food on the 2 key.
Favourite quotes from various friends and family members during the week....
Reese: I can lift a sixth grader.
Otis: Kara doesn't want anymore popcorn. (um, I never said that)
Otis: Don't you need a box to take the rest of that food home? (um, I want to eat it?!)
Lyn: WHOA!!! (in response for my request for a second martini)
Nikki: You look good, have you been working out? (um, no! nice try)
Dennis: blah blah blah lots of stuff about sex with his wife I don't remember details thanks.
Steve: KAAAAYRAH! (that is how he likes to pronounce my name)
Steve: blah blah blah the hogs blah blah whose gonna win this year blah blah razorbacks
Kara: Hey (person to be named in later post) I think I'm crushing on you right now! Did you hear what I said?
Yep. Nice.
Actually, I had a wonderful trip home this year. I will blog more this weekend. I have more to tell. I am house sitting with not much to do but eat popcorn and leftovers to my heart's content.

holiday blues
I like the Georgia font.
Today so far... I got up early and did some laundry. I kept peeking to see if Tony was going to stir. Nope, he has been in his room for almost 4 days straight now. He sent me a text this evening saying he was locked out of the house so he must have at least walked outside for a bit.
I got to work around noon and have made several calls to the police non-emergency line to report fraud on behalf of one of my clients, have written a letter for a trans guys so he can have the gender on his i.d. changed and spent an hour listening to a girl talk in depth about her latest psychotic delusions. This kind of wore me out so I went to Safeway to look for my fave hair product. Nobody is carrying it anymore. I'm not sure what to do. I think I may have to order it online. This gingerbread latte isn't doing much for me.
All my therapy sessions cancelled today except for the girl with the delusions. She always shows up. She sang me a song today about some woman she has never met who committed suicide last year. Oh wait, no, it was about a girl she met on myspace who apparently had a bad "e" trip and then had some sort of negative experience with a black man.
I have sworn off beer and nachos until Christmas. That must be why I feel so blue.

flog my blog
Hi. I have created a blog so I can communicate more frequently with my bff's Trish and Grant. Plus I was thinking that I may do some sort of daily post a la B.J. since I have gotten chubby. So, here is what I have eaten today so far: two boiled eggs, three small slices of cheese, a few barb. chips, a bag of popcorn and so far one half of a protien shake. I think I have had about 4 cigs and no alcohol has been consumed. I will be eating dinner around 10pm with the clients. This will probably be some kind of overcooked pasta with a pretty decent salad.
I am not currently hungry. I am blogging while some guy is filling out paperwork in the waiting room, waiting for his mental health assessment. What has happened so far today that is worth blogging over? Well... I did receive a holiday email from my parents. It looked like this:
Happy Thanksgiving
Otis and Lyn
Um, wow! Such enthusiasm! Can one blog more than once a day? Probably a novice type deal. Cause I am going to meet the next client then maybe I'll get back to this thing.
